The Port Royal Club

History

Port Royal was the dream of John Glen Sample, a pioneer in radio advertising and the father of the American soap opera.

Mr. Sample and his wife Helen discovered the charm of the fledgling community in 1938, when Naples had a population of only 390.

He moved to Naples full-time to pursue his dream and create a community of refined people who valued tradition. Mr. Sample envisioned a community populated with people he liked and wanted for neighbors, a retreat where busy CEOs and other corporate leaders could relax an enjoy themselves.

To accomplish this he gradually aquired two square miles of marshland bordered on one side by the Gulf of Mexico and by Naples Bay on the other.

His goal was to make the development look as natural as possible, with six hundred single family building lots that offered deep water access to the Gulf and Ten Thousand Islands.

The Port Royal Club was established in 1959 for the enjoyment of all Port Royal residents, their families and guests.

An exclusive beach club offering fine dining, tennis and fitness, the Club remains a wonderful place to meet your neighbors as well as relax with family and friends.
